Day 1: Discovering Suzhou's Classical Gardens and Water Towns

Welcome to Suzhou, known as the Venice of the East for its beautiful waterways, bridges and traditional gardens. On your first day in Suzhou, you'll explore some of the city's most popular attractions.

Start your day at the Humble Administrator's Garden, one of Suzhou's most famous classical gardens. This UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back to the 16th century and features beautiful pavilions, lotus ponds and winding streams. Take your time wandering through the various garden areas, each with their own unique features.

Next, head to the Lion Grove Garden, also known as Shizilin in Chinese. This garden is known for its intricately designed rock formations that resemble lions. Take a stroll through the rock paths and caves and admire the tranquil ponds and gardens.

In the afternoon, it's time to visit one of Suzhou's famous water towns: Tongli. Located about 18 miles from the city center, Tongli is a charming town with a network of canals, stone bridges and traditional buildings. Take a boat ride through the canals and stop at the various shops and tea houses along the way. You'll also have the chance to visit some of the town's famous attractions, such as the Tuisi Garden and the Chongben Hall.

Day 2: Exploring Suzhou's Rich Silk History

Suzhou has a rich history as a center for silk production and still produces some of the world's finest silk today. On your second day, you'll experience the city's silk culture and learn about the silk-making process.

Start your day at the Suzhou Silk Museum, a modern museum that tells the story of Suzhou's silk history. Here, you'll learn about the various silk-making techniques, watch traditional weaving demonstrations and see exquisite silk garments on display.

Next, it's time to visit one of Suzhou's famous silk factories. You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at the silk-making process and even have the opportunity to purchase some high-quality silk products to take home as a souvenir.

In the afternoon, head to the Shantang Street, a historic pedestrian street on the banks of the Shantang River. This street is lined with traditional buildings, shops and restaurants, and is a great place to sample some local Suzhou specialties, such as sweet and savory mooncakes and Wonton noodles.

Day 3: Relaxing in Suzhou's Famous Gardens

On your final day, it's time to slow down and relax in some of Suzhou's famous gardens.

Start your day at the Master of Nets Garden, a small but perfectly formed garden that is considered one of Suzhou's finest. This garden is known for its exquisite pavilions, rock formations and small ponds, all of which are designed to create a sense of tranquility and harmony.

Next, head to the Lingering Garden, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Suzhou's largest and most famous gardens. This garden dates back to the 16th century and features four beautiful areas, each with its own unique features, such as the Cloud-Capped Peak and the Lotus Flower Tower.

In the afternoon, head to the Suzhou Museum, a modern museum designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei. Here, you'll find a variety of exhibitions showcasing Suzhou's art, history and culture. The museum is also home to a beautiful courtyard garden, designed in the traditional Suzhou style.

After a full day of exploring, it's time to unwind with a traditional Suzhou massage. There are many spas and massage parlors throughout the city where you can relax and rejuvenate before heading home.

Three days may not be enough to experience everything Suzhou has to offer, but this itinerary will allow you to see some of the city's most famous attractions and immerse yourself in its rich history and culture.
